Do We Have to Always Say, "In Jesus Name?"
Some people teach that we MUST say, "in Jesus name," in everything, but we see two times in Scripture where the Apostles Paul and Peter DID NOT say, "in Jesus name," yet did a mighty work.
But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down, and prayed; and turning him to the body said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes: and when she saw Peter, she sat up.”
Acts 9:40 KJV
“The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed, Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked.”
Acts 14:9-10 KJV
These 2 Scriptures show Peter and Paul doing a mighty work but without saying in the name of Jesus Christ. But we know they did this in Jesus name (onoma in greek also means "authority"). The reason why they did this mighty work without saying, "in Jesus name," was because they believed. Mark chapter 16, Jesus says these signs will follow them that BELIEVE. When Jesus says, "In my Name", it can also mean in His authority.
17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
Mark 16:17-18 KJV
Some believers today are also saying that during water baptism we "MUST" say, "In Jesus Name" because that's what the apostles said. This statement is incorrect. There is not one Scripture that shows us what the Apostles said word for word while baptizing people. We know what the Apostle Paul said word for word while casting out a demon in Acts 16.
18 And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.
Acts 16:18 KJV
Also, if someone says," I baptize you in the NAME of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit," what NAME are they baptizing in?
In Jesus' NAME!
When I baptize people I say, "I baptize you in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, in Jesus name."
